Our History
Our surgeons have been leading surgical excellence for half a century in Houston.
Memorial and Katy Surgical Specialists (formerly known as Memorial City Surgical Associates) have been caring for patients’ surgical needs since 1971. Our doctors have always been at the forefront of ever-changing surgical techniques and technology, and we take pride in our surgeons who have been instrumental in educating other surgeons around the country in these advanced procedures.
Our team of board-certified general surgeons has extensive knowledge and experience in operating on all areas of the body utilizing the most advanced medical equipment. We leverage decades of expertise, education and training to address a wide range of medical conditions including hernia repair, appendix and gallbladder removal, excision of cysts and lipomas on a daily basis, as this is the mainstay of a general surgery practice.
Our Experience
We are trained in the most-advanced, minimally invasive da Vinci Robotic Surgical Systems.
We specialize in laparoscopic and single incision surgery, and the surgeons in our group were among the first to perform laparoscopic cholecystectomies (gallbladder removal) surgery in the State of Texas.
We also specialize in endocrine surgery, primarily thyroid and parathyroid disease. When necessary for parathyroid surgery, we use intraoperative nuclear mapping to allow for a minimally invasive approach and intraoperative parathyroid hormone monitoring when needed to confirm results.
Our surgeons are experienced with using advanced robotic technology, da Vinci Surgery System. It is designed so that the surgeon precisely directs the robotic instruments with increased accuracy in hard-to-reach places. The system is an advanced robotic platform developed to expand the surgeon’s capabilities and offer our patients an option to open surgery.
We are Versatile
Our team works closely with specialists to provide comprehensive care to all of our patients.
We also perform surgical procedures for benign and malignant breast disease. We work hand-in-hand with oncologists, radiation oncologists and plastic surgeons to provide comprehensive care and treatment for our patients.
Colon surgery is an integral part of our practice as well, and some of the conditions requiring surgical intervention include, colon cancer, diverticulitis and bowel obstruction. Most of these procedures have been performed using the laparoscopic approach, because it gives patients an opportunity to experience a shorter recovery period.
